Beginning is a Delicate Time

My wife Holly and I just settled on the name of our project and "Above The Apple Tree" was born. The idea for this house was born in sometime in the 1990's, but really didn't pickup until the last year or two. We had a few serious conversations with my folks about building on the farm and even picked out the location - on the hill above the draw we always referred to as "down by the apple tree" due to the antique Wolf River tree at the head of the lane. Our goal is to build in 2010, but we're not sure if that means breaking ground in October of 2010 or move in in January of 2010 - lots of variability, but we're not on a tight timeline. I've moved 19 times in my life and am only planning two more moves:

I purchased "The Whole Enchilada" and completed the Owner Builder Book this past month. I'm reading The Complete Idiots' Guide to Building Your Own Home now and working with the Better Homes and Gardens Home Designer 7 suite to layout the Above The Apple Tree house. I created preliminary design for the Above The Apple Tree House, but I think I'm going to scrap it. Its based on a layout and design of the features we like and wanted to keep in our current home instead of the features we wished we had in our custom home. Holly and are going back to jump with a feature list where the sky is the limit and I'll work up a few designs based on those features.
